My previous employer has threatened to sue me if I did not return to work after I quit. I am technically a self-contractor and we have signed no contracts. He has made idle threats personally and legally. What can I do to protect myself if he does decide to try and sue me? He has said I will owe him 10s of thousands of dollars. I believe this is blackmail and harassment. What should I do?

If there was no written employment contract, there would be no legal claim for you to return to work...
