My son, a sixth-grade student, tried out for a basketball team at his middle school but did not make it, despite having won several awards and being known as a highly skilled player. The coach, who is fresh out of high school and knows many of the boys he picked for the team from previous interactions, conducted the tryouts in a manner that seemed to favor personal connections over skill assessment. The school claims the program is not for competition but for skill-building, yet they cut players to ensure more play time during games. Do I have a case for a lawsuit against the school for inflicting emotional and psychological abuse, causing severe emotional pain and social stigma to my son and another boy who also did not make the team?
