We had a customer use a fraudulent credit card to make a large purchase. The credit card company and bank claim we have no recourse to recover our money because we didn't have a chip reader, even though we processed the card through our swipe machine. This has cost us a significant amount of money, and we don't feel we should have to absorb such a loss since it was theft. What are our legal options and how can we protect ourselves from such losses in the future?
