We have a tenant who was involved in an alcohol-fueled brawl, resulting in potential battery charges and a restraining order. The other involved parties do not want to press charges if the abusive tenant leaves. We don't have a lease with them, it's a month-to-month arrangement. How do we legally and gracefully handle this situation in New Jersey, and what are our liabilities if we let the tenant stay?

5 years ago, I purchased a house with my boyfriend, with separate mortgages for the house and land. I moved out a year and a half later, and my boyfriend has since married and had a family. He never refinanced to remove my name from the loans. Now, the bank says the loans are going into foreclosure, and I am responsible for $13,000 or my credit will be affected. I didn't know my name was still on the loan. Must I pay the $13,000, or is there something else I can do?
