I am a single parent with a 19-year-old son. I am leaving on a risky trip and want to ensure that if something happens to me, my father can manage my estate for my son's benefit, not his mother. Is there a way to quickly write up a legal document to achieve this?

I am being forced by my attorney to sign a 998, which I believe is a low-ball offer. I don't want to sign any form that makes me financially responsible for the defense fees. My charges are against my employer for harassment, discrimination, pain, suffering, and emotional distress. I have a strong case and am not sure my attorney has enough experience or finances to deal with a powerful firm. They are a small firm and it seems they don't want to go to trial. Do I have to sign this 998, and who will benefit from this? My case is on contingency, and every time my attorney incurs expenses, she says I will be paying from my settlement. Please advise if I am obligated to sign this form.

My ex-husband was receiving SSDI through a direct deposit debit card. He gave me the PIN and I used the card to pay bills, buy food, and cover other expenses while he was in jail for domestic violence. He is now threatening to sue me and have me jailed for using his debit card without permission, even though he knew I had the card and used it to send him money in jail. Can he sue me or send me to jail, and is there a statute of limitations on this issue?

I live in Florida but the plaintiff lives in Michigan. I won the civil case but lost the appeal. Now I want to appeal to the Michigan Supreme Court. My lawyer wants $20k to take the case, which I can't afford. Can I do this myself from Florida? What are my options, and how can I protect my assets in Florida if I decide to do nothing?

Prior to a divorce, I was demoted from an assistant manager to an hourly clerk in late 2007. I discovered my wife had been accumulating debt on credit cards and a home equity line, which she managed. We borrowed money from her parents and my father to catch up and sell the house, planning to use the equity to pay off debts. My wife refused to sell the house, leading to our divorce in July 2011. In the divorce papers, we agreed she would pay half of the debt to her parents and I would pay half to my father. My share to her parents was $12,000, and her share to my father was $4,000. I made a few payments but lost my second job and haven't been able to afford payments since. My ex-mother-in-law threatened legal action if I don't pay. Since they haven't received payments for over four years, am I protected by any law that prevents creditors from pursuing payment after four years? My ex-wife has paid her share to her parents but made no payments to my father.
