I am being evaluated for bariatric surgery and recently discovered high blood pressure (150/110) at my first surgeon appointment. My home blood pressure readings over several days have shown systolic readings between 143-160 and diastolic readings between 93-103. I have been advised to cut salt from my diet and see my primary care physician (PCP) soon. I have three questions: a) Is it advisable to start taking flush-free niacin for blood pressure? b) How concerning are these blood pressure numbers? c) Can I safely take naproxen, given its sodium content, for my increasing headaches?

My ear has been blocked for the past few days, it is not painful but annoying! I got it after suffering from a throat infection. My throat is fine now but my right ear is still blocked.

As far as I understand, Alprazolam is metabolized by the CYP450 family of enzymes, most specifically 3A4. What drugs/foods inhibit the CYP450 enzymes? And if the inhibitor was taken before, would that cause increased max plasma concentration? How long does it take for these enzymes to be "re-made"?

My husband is fighting prostate cancer and is on Fentanyl patches 25mcg/hr to be changed every two days and taking percocet every four hours. He is suffering from severe pain and we are wondering if he could take one of his oxycontin 10mg tablets or if it would be too dangerous considering the other meds he is on. The patch was put on yesterday at 6 and the percocet was taken two hours ago.
