I had a colonoscopy due to persistent right lower abdominal pain, bloating, diarrhea, blood and mucus in stool, low-grade fever, and rectal pressure. The pathology report showed chronic ulcers with mild inflammatory infiltrate, architectural distortion, focal erosion, mucosal fibrosis, and reactive epithelium in the sigmoid colon. My doctor initially thought it was an infection, but I continue to have symptoms despite taking antibiotics. What other diagnoses could be supported by this report, and does it sound consistent with an infection?
