I had a total hysterectomy in January, including removal of my ovaries. I am taking bio-identical estrogen and progesterone cream. Since the surgery, I have gained weight in my mid-section, have low energy, and no sex drive. I also have acne, which I've been told is a sign of high androgens. Given that I no longer have ovaries, which produce testosterone/androgens, why do I have acne, and what could be causing my other symptoms?

My close male friend in prison has developed a mass in his scrotum, along with other small masses, within the past 6 weeks. He has been sent for an ultrasound, and a doctor recommended an immediate biopsy, but he was sent back and they are waiting for the official report, which will take 4 to 5 weeks. Given the rapid growth and potential malignancy, are the prison doctors acting within best medical practice and humane bounds by waiting for the ultrasound results before proceeding with a biopsy? Should my friend contact attorneys who work for prisoners' rights to take action on his behalf?

My daughter has had intermittent diarrhea with weight loss and has seen a doctor. She had a stool check that was negative, modified her diet to eliminate alcohol, coffee, and gluten, but the diarrhea returned after two weeks. Her stool is light in color, and she feels tired but has no pain or further weight loss. What could be causing her symptoms, and what further tests or evaluations should be considered?

My wife has stage 3 multiple myeloma and total kidney failure. The cancer is in remission, but her kidneys are covered with protein caused by the cancer, and she has been on dialysis for 18 months. Her creatinine levels have been around 4.7-5.8 since diagnosed in January 2008. What can she do to clean up the proteins that are keeping her creatinine so high, and is there any way to get her off dialysis?

I am an asthma patient recently hospitalized for over a week, where I was on 500 mg of IV steroids to get my asthma under control. Now at home, 1 1/2 weeks after my hospital stay, I am on 80 mg of Prednisone, along with Advair, Singulair, and Astelin, my regular maintenance drugs. My asthma symptoms have worsened again. I started on Methotrexate treatment before my hospital stay, but don't seem to have any results from it yet. I will be tested to see if I qualify for the Zolar treatment. I have had asthma all my life, but only moderately. I vigorously play various aerobic type sports when I am healthy. Any ideas on how to get out of this funk? Also, please describe a "bronchial toilet."

I had neck surgery today and am having trouble urinating this evening. It's difficult to get a trickle. Would that be due to the surgery?
