I have been experiencing itching around my anal area for the past 15 days, with no pain, and recently noticed white strands of mucus attached to my stools. I take blood pressure and cholesterol tablets, but have not had any tests. What could be causing this and what can I do about it?

I have decided to avoid sugar and white wheat products Monday - Friday. My daughter says this is very dangerous for my health. I'm 49 and healthy except for recent stomach problems which prompted me to do a short herbal colon cleanse, which led me to this plan of my own. Is this dangerous?

I have had diarrhea for 2 months, since taking antibiotics for a tooth abscess. I am 54, and had a colonoscopy last year. I contacted my dentist and doctor, took probiotics, Activia yogurt, Pepto-Bismol, and Imodium A-D. Still, the diarrhea continued. Then my doctor prescribed Welchol 625 mg tablets, 2 AM and 2 PM. This helped only slightly. In the AM, I have a more normal bowel movement, but every afternoon I have 2 or 3 episodes of diarrhea. I have stopped coffee, sugar-free items, and varied my diet. I have another doctor appointment a week from today. What should I do in the meantime?

Would you recommend ear tubes if someone constantly gets ear infections, especially if they have been getting them since childhood, and what options are available to release pressure from the ear when antibiotics don't work?

My 57-year-old mother is experiencing pelvic pain, difficulty lifting her legs, and standing up straight. She walks with a waddle and the pain is more pronounced when stepping with her right foot. She has no history of back pain or recent trauma, but she did strain her hip walking down a grassy hill in heels a few days ago. What could be causing her pain and what should she do?
