I have long-standing hypertension with left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) since 2000 and recently noticed a change in heart rate into the thirties and forties. My cardiologist ordered a 14-day heart monitor, but I haven't received the results yet. My heart rate has returned to 65. I also have chronic heart failure (CHF) diagnosed about five years ago, which now manifests as shortness of breath (SOB) and daytime sleepiness. I am 81 years old and on standard medications. I have had surgeries including colorectal carcinoma and malignant melanoma. My concern is the potential acceleration of CHF and the worsening SOB. I can walk a mile but not run, and SOB has worsened recently. I have discussed this with my cardiologist's nurse practitioner, but appointments are not readily available. I am looking for a root cause analysis rather than just symptom relief.
