My mother's knees have swollen up considerably today. She didn't injure them and they don't hurt. She has diabetes, emphysema, low thyroid, and has been on insulin for about a year. The swelling just showed up out of nowhere in the last several hours. One knee is worse than the other, and she felt a knot under one knee but has no pain. How old is she? How large is the swelling?
