I had a laparoscopic hernia repair surgery today for an anterior abdominal hernia. Upon leaving the OR recovery room, the hernia bulge looks worse and more distended than before. I expected some swelling but the protrusion is still completely there and appears larger. The surgeon attributed it to gas and bloat, stating the procedure was successful and it should improve in 6-8 weeks. Is it possible that this is normal post-surgery swelling and gas, or could there be an issue with the repair?

I have been experiencing extreme cough, dry feeling in my throat, difficulty sleeping, waking up screaming and disoriented, and sores in my mouth. The cough is constant and painful, and I have been feeling off and more lively. I am not on any medications and I am 23 years old. I never felt this way before.
