I am 39 years old, had my tubes tied in 2008, and have experienced longer periods since then. I was prescribed progesterone for 10 days a month to regulate my periods. I had my gallbladder and right ovary removed in March. In the past few months, my periods have been heavy for 2 days, then stop for 1 or 2 days, followed by spotting off and on, and sometimes brown mucousy discharge, lasting about 10 days. I have also experienced hot flashes, dizziness, pelvic pain, bloating, and occipital neuralgia. My doctor ordered a CA-125 test (which was good), an ultrasound that showed 2 cysts on my left ovary, and a pap test (within normal limits). I have an endometrial biopsy scheduled but wonder if I really need it. Could I be perimenopausal?
