I am now 6 weeks into pregnancy and extremely concerned about potential harm to the baby. Will alcohol have done damage from day 1 of pregnancy or until the umbilical cord is fully developed and connected to the mother's blood stream?

She is 45 years old, lives in Turkey, and has a history of being healthy except for this issue. She has four children and is of normal weight, but she smokes.
