I am a landlord of a residential property. I have been asked to provide a W-9 to my tenant's corporation so they can provide me with a 1099 for the rent paid. I believe a 1099 is not necessary since the lease was for personal property and I am not in the business of renting properties. Is that correct?

I am a member of a non-profit organization where a clergyman grossly overstates his housing expenses and fails to report side income from lecturing fees, while the board of trustees ignores these issues and retaliates against those who speak up. Is overreporting housing expenses considered tax evasion, and is failure to report side income also considered tax evasion? What are the consequences if I report this to the IRS, and can I sue the clergyman or the organization for these actions?
