My in-laws moved from Maine to Massachusetts in July 2017 but maintained ownership of their former residence in Maine until 2018. They spent more than 183 days in Maine during the tax year and maintained a 'permanent place of abode' in Maine. Should they be considered 'statutory residents' of Maine, and if so, do they need to pay taxes for the full year in Maine and also in Massachusetts from July forward?
