My wife and I own a business registered as a C Corp. We have a formal office as well as an office in the basement of our home. During the pandemic, we transitioned to a mostly work-from-home setup and have continued to do 99% of our business from there. We would like to do some improvements on the basement to make it more 'workable' (paint, new carpet, etc.). Can these be categorized as business expenses on our books even though it is in our home, or would we need to pay for this through a payroll expenditure (i.e., give ourselves a bonus and pay for the repairs that way)?

I have a complex tax situation this year as I was a W2 employee, then transitioned to an LLC, and finally to an S Corporation. I am also a 1099 employee through another company. I'm unsure how to handle my taxes, especially determining a reasonable salary for myself as an S Corporation employee. How should I approach filing my taxes and determining my salary?
