Do I have to pay taxes on my social security income, and if so, how much could I owe? I am receiving my first social security payment in July and will be 65 in May. I thought it was tax-free, but I also earn an additional $21,000 per year, which is taxable.

I need a tax advocate due to financial hardship and help getting my amended tax return released faster. I received a 5747c letter to verify my identity in person, and I'm also confused about why my AGI number changed to a negative amount after amending my tax return.

As a residential general contractor in Texas, I only do fixed-based contracts. I have questions about taxes related to services provided by vendors. For example, when I hire a window company to build and install a shower door, the invoice usually includes the cost, no tax, and the final cost. I add a percentage markup on their product and installation, which is included in the overall contract. I understand that the window company pays taxes at their end. However, when I buy building materials from Home Depot, I pay taxes immediately. I do not pay taxes on my overall profit, unlike on a commercial project. Can you clarify the tax implications for these scenarios?

I’m a college student who is sorting out how to fill out the 1098-T form in my taxes. If I have tuition I’m about to pay this week that was for tuition due at the end of 2023, would that payment be put into my 2023 taxes I’m currently filing? Or will it belong in my next year’s taxes since it will have been paid within 2024?

I am retired, over 65, with income from Social Security and a small amount in interest and dividends. I determined that I do not owe any taxes for calendar year 2009. Because the interest and dividends have been reported to the IRS, do I need to submit Form 1040 showing no tax owed?

I performed stand-up comedy out-of-state and received a 1099-MISC form identifying me as a non-employee. I believe this counts as self-employment. Do I need to file a state return for the state I performed in, and how should I report this income?
