I have a GE dishwasher that seems to work fine but leaves an awful film on dishes and sometimes food gets stuck on the outside of glasses. We have cleaned the back screen and larger grate, and the grinding blade is clear of food. The water drains fine, but dishes are not clean, even though the cycle completes. What are your suggestions?

How do you force this model into a defrost cycle and how do you end this test? The refrigerator is not cooling, the evaporator fan and condenser fan are running, the compressor is cold and does not run, and there is no 120 VAC to the compressor. I thought maybe it is stuck in the defrost mode.

My Maytag Neptune front-loading washer won't drain. What is a 'stand pipe,' and how do I check for a kinked drain hose or a plugged stand pipe? I am elderly and visually impaired, so I need to know if these repairs are something I can do myself or if I need to call a repairman.
