We have a Kitchen Aid Dishwasher Type #577 Model KUDS01FLSS1 which is 7 years old and the filter has never been removed for cleaning. There is a lot of debris visible from the holes on the cover and dark sludge in the washer tub and racks. I have removed the water distribution propeller and the 4 screws holding the filter cover, but it refuses to come off. How can I safely remove the filter cover without damaging the dishwasher?

I have a Whirlpool Trashmasher Compactor (installed in 1985). The ram is stuck in the down position, and I cannot open the compactor drawer door. When I turn the switch on, I hear the motor humming but the ram is not moving. The drawer door is fully closed but slightly rotated clockwise. How can I get the ram upward if the motor just hums, and if that is not possible, how do I get the compactor out to repair or replace it?
