My GE GFW850SSNOWW washing machine, which is a year and a half old, has recently started to not complete any cycles, including spin cycles. I have tried cutting power, cleaning the pump filter, and running it on spin only, but it still won't complete cycles. It ends each cycle at 16 minutes remaining. What could be the issue and what should I do?

I have an older LG front load washer (model WM0642HW) that has been emitting a smell of electrical smoke during the spin cycle for about 2 weeks, especially in the last few days. We have an older electric dryer with no heat. We have checked all the power, fuses, thermal limiters, timer, motor switch, and thermostats as shown in videos. The dryer is a Sears Kenmore unit, all other functions are normal, no damaged wires, and there is 240V at the plug. What else can be causing the issue, and what should we check next?
