My Whirlpool Duet washing machine is not cleaning clothes properly. The clothes either smell like they did before they were washed or sometimes have a small mildew smell. We are using Tide liquid detergent. I have tried cleaning the filter, cleaning the cartridge where the detergent is added, and adding detergent directly into the drum. What other issues might cause this issue?

I have an old Maytag Performa washer (Model #PAV2300AWW) that fills with water and goes through the wash cycle, but stops when it's time to drain.
