Whirlpool Cabrio wtw5200xw2: The lid lock LED flashes after trying to start the washer, and the washer won't start. The light continues to flash and the lid remains locked for 4 minutes after power is turned off. What could be the issue and how can I diagnose and fix it?

I have a Kenmore Washer Model # 110.44936 202. It now takes as long as 30 seconds for the door to lock and the cycle to begin. Sometimes I’ll get 3 short beeps after the cycle starts. What could be causing this and how can it be fixed?

Our front load Samsung VRT has a drain/filter at the bottom front of the machine that needs to be cleaned/drained periodically. When I pulled it out today, it looks like it’s gotten too hot. The filter is misshapen and even the threads are warped beyond the ability to replace it straight. My wife says she doesn’t wash anything very hot. What might be the cause and where can I find another filter/plug?
