I have an HP2710m 27-inch monitor plugged into my computer via an HDMI cable, and there is a black border around my entire screen, so the display is not using the full display area. I am using a PC with Windows 7 and the Screen Resolution is set at full 1920x1080. Why is this border appearing, and how can I fix it?

I have an Acer Aspire 5100 with several issues: incorrect characters appearing when typing, continuous beeping at startup, and windows opening off-screen with oversized icons and background.
