My dog is in good health and full of life, but I am concerned about giving her tablets. What advice can you provide?

I have a Yorkiepoo, he is 3 years old. His right eye was red first with some matter in it, and about 3 days later, the left eye began to do the same thing. I bought him some eye rinse, but it only seems to work for a couple of hours and does not seem to be clearing up. What should I do, as I can't afford a vet?
