The town where we had a previous business is trying to hold my husband and I responsible for the personal property taxes of our business even though the business was terminated 3 years ago and there were no assets of the business at that time. The state asked us to write a letter stating that the corporation had no assets at that time or in the future, and we did. The town is now sending tax bills in our personal name to our personal address. What should we do?
