I have been served with a summons from Butte County, CA, as one of 3-4 defendants in a case involving unfair business practice, fraud, and breach of contract. The plaintiff is currently incarcerated and I am a resident of Indiana. My sister and nephew, also defendants, were/are residents of Florida. I received the notice of this action on September 10, 2015, and had 30 days to respond. I am seeking guidance on how to proceed and need help in preparing a response.

I was the only one who collected money from the homeowner and distributed it to the subs and day laborers. I cannot legally find a way for the concrete sub to reimburse me for doing a poor job with his concrete work. What are my options under CA law?
