My bank had a flood in the basement where safe deposit boxes are located. When I went to retrieve the contents of my box, the locks had been changed, and I was told that two bank employees opened my box and found no contents. I kept inherited jewelry in the box, and I have no insurance coverage for the contents. What legal steps can I take to recover my lost property or compensation?

I was a victim of fraud when purchasing a 2006 Pontiac Montana from a seller on Craigslist. The seller misrepresented the car's condition, claiming recent repairs that were not true, and the car had significant mechanical issues shortly after purchase. I have no money to consult a lawyer, and the police in Iowa City said I didn't have a criminal case. Should I contact the district attorney, and do I have a chance of winning a civil or criminal case against the seller?
