My mother has been in a verbal rent-to-own agreement with her employer/landlord for six years, working full-time to pay off the house. Recently, he has been withholding her pay, claiming it goes towards the house payments, and now he is threatening to back out of the agreement. We have the original lease agreement, a voucher copy for a $10,000 rent payment with his signature, and witnesses to her work and the agreement. Can we use this evidence to enforce the verbal agreement and prevent him from taking back the house?

Why or how is a case referred to a magistrate, and what are the implications for a civil case that has been in the Court of Common Pleas for over two years, especially when the court asks for mediation and then assigns the case to a magistrate without explicit consent from the parties involved?

In Ohio, for a full bathroom remodel costing over $16,000, is it required to have a licensed contractor on site? We hired a company that refers to itself as general contractors, but the supervisor admitted to not being licensed. We are concerned about potential damage and OSHA violations.

In filing a Pro Se complaint, will the judge favor a complaint that is filed in a more traditional (lawyer-prepared) format, or is a standard (pro se) essay format acceptable? The current complaint, written by my girlfriend Pilar, is in essay form, filled with anger and emotion, and is almost 15 pages long. I'm worried that the judge may see this essay-format, emotion-based complaint as overly dramatic and/or hyperbolic, and thus may not give it the credence it deserves. Thoughts?
