I have an old oil painting by Peckham, depicting Admiral Nelson, with an original, very old stretcher and frame. The painting was appraised in 1981 and was thought to be a reproduction due to the signature appearing wrong. The signature is slightly raised above the surface and the painting is in good condition but needs restretching in one area. What is the authenticity and value of this painting?

I have a log hewn by 'Jeremiah Johnson' from a trading store he helped to build in Columbus, Montana. It is about 12 feet in length, hand-hewn, and was removed from the original building during a remodel. The log was given as a gift to my husband, who has since passed away. The log has axe marks, is grayed in color, and I believe it is made of Cottonwood. Is there anything else the Antiques Appraiser should be aware of?
