I was hit by a car while riding my bike over a year ago. I suffered cuts, bruises, hospital bills, and my bike was totaled. The driver was working for the city of Fort Collins, CO, and they have offered a settlement of $5000, which includes the cost of my bike, hospital bills, and pain and suffering. I had to buy a new bike for $700 and put it on my credit card, which I'm still paying interest on. I asked for compensation for the new bike, but the insurance company claims they have no authority to give me more. Should I accept the settlement or fight for more?
