When we rented a house, our landlord made several promises to replace and fix things but never did. They raised the rent, so we had to move. We bought a house and gave proper notice. Our rent was $625/mo, and the fuel in the tank is 166 gal at fair market value of $3.50/gal = $581. I subtracted the oil from the rent and told them they owed us the balance. They are refusing to pay this. They want us to pump out the oil and pay the rent. Our rent period was from September 10 to October 10, but we were only there from September 10 to September 28. The house is move-in ready, and we even cleaned the carpets. If I trusted them, I would have paid the rent. Is there anything we can do about this?
